In Dubai – Speeding can NEVER be Thrilling!

The main roads of Dubai become quite congested at times. Ironically, it is when the traffic is moving slowest drivers are hit with an urge to drive fastest. It is unfortunate that this urge can sometimes go out of control. In an attempt to make up for lost time and reach destination in time, drivers may lose their normal sense of safety and become vulnerable to road accidents.

Safety is always a key thing to keep in mind when you are driving around town. Speeding, like any other habit, is easy to acquire but not so easy to lose. Most drivers are not ready to admit that speeding is a habit. They will insist that they only speed when they are fully aware that it will have no adverse effects.

If this were true then you would not keep reading occasional news and articles about how speeding has caused an accident or the random death. Though Dubai has a far better road safety record than some other cities, recent news are not showing it in such a good light. These incidents have caused the authorities to get a lot stricter with a view to keeping such occurrences to a minimum if not eradicating them entirely.

You should not speed because there is always a danger of your vehicle going out of control. While it is true that in some cases fault cannot be pinned to one driver only, more often than not it is. One common mistake drivers make is that they are used to one type of vehicle and they tend to drive all of them in the same way.

You must keep in mind that every vehicle has its own weight, traction, acceleration, and other factors that determine its handling and road-worthiness. If you are not used to a particular vehicle then you should drive it even more carefully. You may not even be going too fast in order to lose control of a vehicle you are not used to. At high speeds, risk increases dramatically.

According to the Acting Director of the Traffic Department, Bridgadier Eisa Aman, the Emirates Road and Shaikh Zayed Road are currently among the two most dangerous roads in Dubai. You should remember this when driving in those areas because as far as statistics are concerned you need to be extra cautious on those roads.

Another area that statistics highlight is that most of the speeding incidents occur among youngsters between the ages of 23-27. This is just the age when parental supervision begins to get relaxed and newfound freedom can lead to rash driving. Further temptation is provided by good condition of the roads in Dubai. A flat and clean road is like an open invitation to cross speed limit but that invitation needs to be declined firmly in the interests of safety.

As a part of the community, you must do your part to ensure safety on the roads. Follow the traffic rules and regulations and drive safely and responsibly.
